Sometimes something comes along in the marketplace, and I just completely become obsessed with it. My new thing is called a SmashBook. I certainly never intended to use this space for anything like plugging a commercial product.. But since I have invested a good bit of time lately getting to know this product line, it’s really all I have to write about at this moment.
When I first heard the term and saw the photo, I was intrigued enough to google the name and check it out. I chose to view a video about a hand made smash book. A smash book is an old fashioned scrapbook. Like the kind we made when I was a kid in the 60’s. Yes children, we had glue and paper back then and it was fabulous. Whatever you did, attended, read about, found, saved went into the scrapbook. Flowers from the prom, tickets from a new movie, letters, photos, etc., it all went in the scrapbook. There was always room. The messier the better. These were your memories.
That is the idea behind the new Smash Book. Distributed by EK Success by K and Company, the books are moderately priced and there are accessories too. I personally love the old fashioned library stamp. It has really cool sayings next to the date stamp part.
As I stated though, I began my journey by watching a video about someone making one from scratch. It was beautiful. And personal. I had to try it.
My sister’s significant mid century, birthday was approaching. I decided to make a scrapbook journal for her birthday gift that was themed around this significant number.
I added lots of pockets, lists, and envelopes for her to fill with memories. I think that what differentiates this from the new scrapbooking hobby, is that you just add as you go. Its not supposed to be perfect. Just personal. I hope it was inspirational for my sister and that she enjoys going old school with the scrapbooking.
If you aren’t inclined to start from scratch, you can see lots of different ideas in addition to the ones from K and Company by googling SmashBook.
