Homemade Cocoa Mix – Make Some Today
It’s not just my opinion, fall is the best season (that’s a fact, Jack). I love the cooler days, the leaves changing to multiple colors, football, hearty crockpot meals, just about everything that fall brings with it. We’ve spent a lot of time in southern states lately where fall seems to take its time showing up. In Texas, fall usually doesn’t show up until late October or even November. Tee shirts on Thanksgiving? That took some getting used to. Now in Kansas, we’ve been teased with a few fall-like days already, so of course I’ve busted out the hot cocoa.
Really, what can be better than a cup of hot cocoa on a crisp fall evening? Now, who wants that tasty drink full of unnatural, processed ingredients? Show of hands? Me either! Here’s a picture of a label from a store bought cocoa mix.
So, I scoured the internet for recipes, found a few, but none that really sounded like exactly what I was looking for. So I ended up taking pieces from several different recipes and making my own version of homemade cocoa mix. I hope you enjoy it!
Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix
3 cups Instant dry milk powder
2.75 cups powdered sugar (3 cups if you like it sweeter)
1.5 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
2 cups of chocolate chips (milk, dark, white, or a combination)
¼ tsp salt
Put chocolate chips in a food processor and grind until they are fine. Then combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix well. Pour into an airtight container to store. When you’re ready for a cup combine 1/3 a cup of mix with 1 cup of hot water or milk.
Now, I bet that sounds a lot better than the boxed version, huh? Mix some up today and be ready for all the crisp, fall weather that’s sure to head your way soon.
